About Oaktree Living

We specialise in the delivery of new build developments for a range of social housing providers, delivering partnership, land-led and tendered works.

From initial concept to design, through construction and after sales care, we combine high quality materials, modern construction methods and an excellent internal specification to create new homes.

Oaktree Living is one of seven businesses in the Hewitson Group, within its Hewitson Development division. That means groundworks, plant, haulage and civils sit under the same roof, so remediation, roads and sewers on our sites are self-delivered rather than subcontracted out.

  • Partnership, land-led and tendered procurement routes
  • Concept design through to post-completion aftercare
  • Energy efficient specification as standard: ASHP, PV and MVHR
  • Modern methods of construction where programme demands it
  • Brownfield remediation handled in-house by the Hewitson Group
  • Premier Guarantee warranty across our housing association stock
  • Part of a seven-company group with plant, haulage and groundworks in-house

About Us

New build developments for social housing providers, delivered from concept design through construction to after sales care.

Our Approach

Quality Homes,
Built for Affordable Living.

Oaktree Living specialises in the delivery of new build developments for a range of social housing providers, delivering partnership, land-led and tendered works. From the initial concept to design, through to construction and after sales care, we combine high quality materials, modern construction methods and an excellent internal specification to create new homes.

Because we sit within the Hewitson Group, the parts of a residential scheme that usually cause programme risk (demolition, asbestos removal, contaminated ground, roads and sewers) are handled by companies we own. Hewitson Limited and HAB Northern take on the remediation and infrastructure while our own site teams get on with the homes.

That control shows in the specification. Air source heat pumps, photovoltaic panels, mechanical ventilation with heat recovery and M4(2) accessible layouts are standard rather than optional, and we have twice delivered the first off-gas stock a housing association has taken on.

Major Groundwork Milestones

Major groundwork milestones are being achieved at Tunstall Farm, Ryhope. Our latest drone footage captures the significant progress being made as this development continues to advance through its early construction phases.

Progress on Site

Over the past month, offsite drainage works have been successfully completed, helping to establish the essential infrastructure required to support the new community. Across the site, onsite drainage installation is now well underway, alongside ongoing vibro piling operations and foundation construction.

These vital works lay the groundwork for the homes that will soon begin to emerge, marking another important step forward in delivering high-quality, affordable housing for the region.

About Oaktree Living

Oaktree Living is the Hewitson Group's residential developer focused on affordable housing, delivering schemes of 5 to 75 homes and committed to practical, high-quality homes that meet local demand.

Our Commitment

Social Value

We fully understand our obligation to care for, protect and improve our planet, and we are conscious of the footprint we leave behind.

Group Commitment

Seven Companies,
One Set of Standards.

We recognise the adverse environmental impacts our services can have, as well as the benefits of supporting the communities in which we operate. Across our three divisions, Hewitson Civils (Hewitson Limited, HAB Northern), Hewitson Plant & Haulage (Hewitson Plant Hire, Hewitson Haulage) and Hewitson Development (Oaktree Living, Appleton Homes, Albrough Homes), our seven businesses have established actions to tackle some of the most pressing environmental and social concerns.

  • Carbon OffsettingA holistic approach to delivering our services and sourcing materials lets us minimise waste and cut carbon output. Where emissions remain, we offset, and the planting programme on our own farmland is the mechanism.
  • Local EmploymentWe use local resource wherever we can and empower local people to gain skills and employment, delivering economic regeneration that provides long term benefits to social wellbeing.
  • ApprenticeshipsAn ongoing apprenticeship programme for tradespeople of all ages and school leavers. We are currently sponsoring and mentoring five trainee construction professionals at colleges and universities across the North East: quantity surveyors, managers and engineers.
  • Charitable GivingIn 2023 the Hewitson Group raised upwards of £30,000 for charitable causes, alongside backing local grassroots sports teams and schools, and supporting cancer charities, hospices, CHUF, Shelter, RNLI, Air Ambulance, Tiny Lives, Papyrus, the Salvation Army and Dogs Trust.
  • Community EngagementWe work hand in hand with clients and community stakeholders on donations in kind and grant support, volunteering, site visits, safety toolbox talks and community consultation events. On the RAFA Club scheme we renamed the development after the club it replaced.
  • Donated WorksWe donate labour, plant and materials to community projects: a Forest School at Links Primary School in Eaglescliffe, outdoor works at the Wallsend Centre for Pathways for All, and new DDA-compliant accessible pathways for Daisy Chain in Billingham.

Environment

Offsetting on
our own land.

Carbon emissions are a key contributor to climate change, so we have plans in place to offset the group's footprint, using the 390 acres of Hewitson Farms that surround our head office at Teesside Grange.

Woodland Creation

9,822 Trees Planted

We planted 8,000 trees to assist with future carbon offsetting from the group, in areas of our arable farm not being worked. With the project undergoing validation by the Soil Association, it has been calculated that 2,731 t/CO₂ will be offset. A further 1,822 trees were planted in March 2024.

Habitat Restoration

1,540m of Hedgerow

The office at Teesside Grange is surrounded by Hewitson Farms. To accompany the newly planted woodland, we have restored 1,540 metres of hedgerow across the farm to form and enhance habitats for local wildlife.

Communities

Where we have helped.

We are passionate about communities and committed to delivering meaningful engagement that makes a difference to local people.

Great North Run

We covered the entry fees for eight staff members to take part in the Great North Run, raising over £15,000 on behalf of Pathways for All.

Schools
